urban affair

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Amit and Casey were one of our favorite couples this year. They got married at the historic Court of Appeals followed by a reception at  Foreign Cinema. We could feel the love as soon we walked in to the room and we could tell that this was going to be a fun and heart felt evening. Jerry Yoon captured some of the pretty images below.

Photos from our own library show the dusty gray-lavendar palette in matching gray wood boxes. We used a fragrant mix of herbs, succulents, lotus pods, eucalyptus, dusty miller and estrangea.

nbd hosts a party, part 2

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

In case you missed it in our last post, the Natalie Bowen Designs team hosted a Czech themed dinner party for ourselves. Anna’s brother-in-law Mira is a chef in Czech and made for us an incredible meal. Perfectly cooked pork, a variety of dumplings with gravy, potatoes with garlic cream sauce, and more.

As if we needed more delicious things to eat after our feast? Since two birthdays are better than one, we decided double cake was the way to go. We were stuffed for ages! In the best of way, of course.

nbd hosts a party, part 1

When Anna announced that her family would be visiting from Czech, we all jumped on the idea of a big dinner party. Natalie hosted, Anna’s sister and brother in law cooked a traditional feast and the rest of us got to enjoy the whole thing. Today I’m sharing images from the table setting, tomorrow I’ll post the party.

The starting point of inspiration for the Czech themed dinner was the linens. We went folky with a La Tavola woven linen and tea towel style napkins. Since the party would be traditional Eastern European comfort food we wanted to stay with a simpler look and used antique brass candle holders that Natalie got in Wyoming and juxtaposed those against concrete vases.

We used heckia (heck-ya!), viburnum, roses, double cheerfulness jonquils, rannunculus and variegated carnations. Yes, carnations. If you didn’t know it before, you know it now. Natalie loves carnations and isn’t afraid to say it!

Sometimes all it takes is a home to inspire us. The second I walked in to the home of this client I fell in love wth their amazing mid-century home. Situated atop Belvedere it is pretty much perfect. The wide views and beautiful details by the architect Esherick inspired our designs for this mid-winter wedding. Cliff Brunk captured the beauty here.

Fresh Monday

The halls are decked, and team is happy to be celebrating the holiday with family and friends. We’ll be quiet this week online as we spend time relaxing, sitting by the fire and sipping eggnog. Merry Christmas.

So Many Treats

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

Last week, the Natalie Bowen Designs team went wild in the kitchen with baking and cooking treats for all of the amazing vendors we work with at the San Francisco Flower Mart. We thought you might enjoy seeing some images both from our day prepping and delivering the pretty boxes to recipients.

We decided on Lime Snowballs, Ginger Molasses Cookies, Toffee and Candied Grapefruit as a good mix of flavors and textures.

Friday morning the team gathered at the market and walked around together making deliveries. It was a really fun morning. Happy holidays everyone!
