Joanna Riedl is one of the grooviest gals I have ever met. Every time we cross paths I feel so filled up and inspired. Her outlook and passion are as spot on as her trademark bangs. She currently leads public relations for Poshmark, the leading destination for buying and selling fashion. She loves to casually write about what she knows and was previously a contributor for fashion and lifestyle website. In a nut shell, I wanna be Joanna when I grow up!
1. What was your best career moment or your first big break?
When I ventured out on my own I ignited this spark inside me that I’ve never seen before. When you have your own business, everything becomes way more personal and I was able to truly integrate who I was into the work I do. When that happened, I was blown away at the impact I was able to make for my clients. I guess you could say it was when my journey of self discovery and my career path collided.
2. What trend would you like to see end?
Personally I’m not much for following trends (I’ve had my bangs for 10 years!) but have a pretty big tolerance for other people expressing themselves. I’ll tell you the trend I hope never ends, Beyonce-mania. I’m definitely in the Bey-Hive.
3. What is one thing about your current life that would surprise the younger version of you?
Honestly, and I’m going to get pretty deep here, I’d have to say how successful I am in my career. When I was in my emo-teen, uber rebellious stage, I wasn’t interested in anything but boys and partying. My teen self definitely didn’t have the ambition of the woman you see in front of you today. Or maybe I had it, but I didn’t have the confidence to recognize it!
4. What is one aspect of your job that people may be surprised to hear?
How much of it happens via email? I feel like I’m an email ninja. I’ve made a real effort in the last four years after starting my business to make sure I focus on face to face relationships and meet people for coffee/tea when I can. It’s probably one of the best ways to build your network and spark new ideas.
5. What is your happiest / most vivid memory involving a certain floral?
A recent one was when my best friend and boyfriend threw me a surprise party for my 33rd birthday (3 is my lucky number!) and a friend gave me a floral crown. For some reason, the bright pink and yellow colors of the flowers (I don’t remember what kind) really stuck in my mind.
Thank you, Joanna!
